Top Things To Get Your Home Ready For Spring
Spring is just around the corner and with that comes all of the spring cleaning and getting the house ready. Here are some great tips to help with getting your house in tip-top shape with all this nice weather.
#1 - Clean your Gutters!
With all of the winter and spring storms there is bound to be some debris on your roof and your gutter. Now is a good time to break out the latter and get up there and clean out the junk. I recommend that you try to remove the most of the junk with your hands and then bring a hose up to spray out the rest of it.
#2 - Scrub the walls, floors, everything!!!
Will all of the sickness and things that float around in the winter time, spring time is a great time to get in there and clean everything. Hence Spring Cleaning! You can use something as simple as hot water and some mild soap. Just take a rag and wipe down the walls and the floor boards. This will freshen up the home and help keep things cleaner. Now is also a good time to clean the outlets to make sure there is no debris stuck to them.
#3 - Replace your air filters!
Going hand in hand with cleaning the walls, now is a great time to replace the air filters in your furnace and central air system. These can be a little tricky to remove depending on where your furnace is located. You can remove the filter and go into your nearest home improvement store or big box store and you should be able to find the matching filter. These should be replaced in the spring and fall.
#4 - Wash your exterior windows!
With all of the winter storms and weather, your outside windows are probably a little dirty. You can take a ladder, if needed, and your normal window cleaning solution and get out there and wash the windows. If you have blinds or window coverings, now is a good time to clean those as well. If you do not feel comfortable doing this you can also hire a professional window cleaning company to do this. Your local REALTOR should have some connections for you on this. This will help make your house look cleaner, and heck if you haven't cleaned the inside of the windows in a while, now is a good time for that too!
#5 - Test your smoke detector
Most of us probably don't check these things regularly and they can save your life. I recommend that you check the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in the spring and fall to make sure that everything is working. They have a test button on there as well which is good to do to make sure everything is running smoothly.
There are a lot of other things that you could do to get your home ready for spring. Anything that has been stored in the garage or outbuildings that you bring out would probably be a good idea to clean and set out. You can also do a deep clean on your outdoor grills to make sure that they are ready for thew new grilling season. Just remember to get out there and enjoy the wonderful weather that you are having!
